Accessibility
We believe music is for everyone, and that includes the many people who experience it entirely by ear. As a shop literally named for listening, making our website and store welcoming to blind, low-vision, and disabled music lovers isn't an afterthought. It's the point.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and to keep improving over time.
What we've built in
- Screen-reader friendly: semantic HTML structure, meaningful headings, descriptive link text, and alternative text on meaningful images. Decorative elements are hidden from assistive tech.
- Keyboard accessible: every interactive element can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a "skip to content" link and clearly visible focus outlines.
- Readable by design: strong color contrast, resizable text, and a layout that reflows on any screen size.
- Respectful motion: if your device requests reduced motion, we turn off the animated backgrounds automatically.
- Labeled forms: the newsletter form has proper labels and clear, announced status messages.
In the shop
Our team is always glad to help you navigate the store, pull records, read liner notes and prices aloud, or find exactly what you're after. Just ask. If there's something we can do to make your visit easier, tell us.
Known limitations
Some third-party content we embed (like the Google Map) may not be fully accessible. Wherever we rely on it, we also provide the same information in plain text. For example, our address and directions are written out on the site.
Tell us how we're doing
If you run into a barrier on this site or in the store, we want to hear about it and we'll work with you to get you what you need. Email listen@blindguyrecords.com and we'll respond promptly. (A phone line is coming soon.)
